Turning on the Safe Side [CPTSS]
Description
The player plays a bounce pass with coach on the inside of the mannequin, after-which they open on the other side facing the rebounder to receive the ball. The players takes their first touch towards the rebounder before performing a 180-degree turn. Once the player has turned, the player would then take a touch before turning again to face the rebounder. The plays a pass against the rebounder before playing back to the coach.
Key Coaching Points
Safe Side
- The furthers part away from the defender.
- If the player has the defender on the left side, the player should keep the ball on the outside of their right foot furtherest away from the defender.
Awareness
- Player should be aware of the defenders to make sure the ball is safe.
- In situations where there is a second defender, the player should prioritise the closest defender.
Turns
- Outside hook
- Inside hook
- Stop & turn
- When turning, be aware of the defenders to make sure that the body is protecting the ball, especially in the exit of the turn.
