Safe Side [CPCSS]

Description

Set up

  • 2 players in the middle; 1 in-possession, 1 out-possession
  • 4 players on the outside, 3 footballs

Instruction

  • Player in-possession looks to receive the ball from one of the players on the outside.
  • The player can win a point if they receive the ball and play it to the free player on the outside. This would score a point.
  • The ball can get played back to where it came from, with no points gained.
  • Player will work between 30-60 seconds, setting a challenge for the players to collect as many points as they can.

Key Coaching Points

Keeping the ball on the safe side - attacker getting their body between the ball and defender, as far away from them while maintaining control of the ball. Get the body shape side on and avoid getting caught square on with the back against the defender

Blocking the eye line - get the body in the way and make it difficult for the defender to see / read the ball. Makes the defender even more reactive based on the moves of the attacker.

First touch - get the ball under control to better manipulate the ball to change direction / create angles to move.
