Receiving on the Half Turn

Description

The player plays a bounce pass with the coach before moving to other side of the pole. The player then receives on the ball, taking it on the half-turn, towards the opposite side. As they approach, the player performs a turn before passing the ball back into the coach. The exercise is then repeated.

Progressions

  • Swap sides
  • Player has to receive the ball on both sides before playing back to the coach

Key Coaching Points

Footwork - the player should take small steps backwards, turning their feet to allow their body to change direction quickly with control.

Body shape - have the shoulders and hips facing the ball as it is coming towards you. As the player takes a touch of the ball, the player should then open their shoulders and hips to face in the direction which they want to turn towards.

Contact on the ball - the player should look to hit the outside of the ball with the inside of their foot, allowing the ball to travel in the opposite direction and adding spin onto it to slow the ball down.
