Receiving Back to Goal [CPRBTG]

Description

Set up

  • 3 servers
  • 2 groups separated
  • 2 zones
  • 1 mini goal

Instructions

  • Server plays the ball into the first area. 1 player from each group challenge together to get the ball first. The players have to get the ball into the other half before being able to score a goal.
  • Once the first set of players finish, the next group go.
  • Teams score a point for getting into the opposite half.
  • Players have 10 seconds to get a shot off on goal.

Progressions

  • 2 of the servers stand on the sides, acting as a bounce pass for the players in the middle.
  • Extra point scored if the team score after getting past the halfway line.

Key Coaching Points

Keeping the ball on the safe side - attacker getting their body between the ball and defender, as far away from them while maintaining control of the ball. Get the body shape side on and avoid getting caught square on with the back against the defender

Blocking the eye line - get the body in the way and make it difficult for the defender to see / read the ball. Makes the defender even more reactive based on the moves of the attacker.

First touch - get the ball under control to better manipulate the ball to change direction / create angles to move.
