Quick Feet & Decelerate

Description

The player does the footwork before reacting to the call of the coach. The player sprints towards the cone before decelerating on it. Challenge the player to get as close as they can to the cone at full speed before decelerating.

Footwork Examples

  • Side to side (2-feet in, 1-foot out)
  • Forwards and backwards (2-feet in, 2-feet out)

Progressions

  • Change the footwork
  • Add the ball in

Key Coaching Points

Footwork - feet shoulder width apart, keeping on the balls of the feet.

Decelerate - small / quick steps to slow down and get control of the body to change direction.

Accelerate - push off the back foot, planting the inside of the bottom of the foot down. The knee slightly bent, used to spring once the foot makes contact with the floor.
