Purposeful First Touch
Description
The athlete drops back to create distance between themselves and the defender. The coach passes the ball towards the back foot for the player to take a touch and get a shot off. The player comes back for a second shot, bounce passing with the coach before opening up to receive the ball again. This time the player takes the touch towards the mannequin before beating them in a 1v1 move and getting a shot off.
Key Coaching Points
Body shape - Open the hips to show the teammate where you want to receive the ball, as well as preparing to take the touch in the direction which you intend.
First touch - Step into the ball in the direction which you want to take it. Face the hips where you intend the ball to go.
