Deceleration & Reaction

Description

The player reacts to the call from the coach, sprinting towards the middle cone to decelerate on. Test the players ability to run at fall speed and staring to decelerate as close to the cone as possible. The player then reacts to the bounce of the ball, getting the player to start sprinting to catch before it bounces again. The payer must then decelerate after getting hold of the ball as quick as possible.

Progressions

  • Between the start and the middle cone, the coach will bounce the ball multiple times. On each bounce, the player will either accelerate or decelerate depending on the order of the bounce. Once the player gets to the middle cone, the next bounce will be the player attempting to get the ball before it bounces on the floor again.

Key Coaching Points

Footwork - feet shoulder width apart, keeping on the balls of the feet.
