Curved Sprinting [PLCS]

Description

Set up a curve with field cones as shown in the photo, around 10 yards long.

With the coach one side of the cones and the player the other side , the practice will start with the coach bouncing the ball. The athlete must react to this and sprint around the curve and try to catch the ball before the second bounce.

Repeat this 4 times on each side, so the player is expose to sprinting both sides.

Progression:

The coach will pass the ball to the player, the player must then receive the ball and travel with the ball at speed around the curve, exposing them to dribbling in a non-lineal way.

Key Coaching Points

  • Look for explosiveness, give the player good amounts of rest between each sprint (around 30 seconds).
  • Benefits of doing this is allowing the players body to learn to develop better explosiveness when sprinting in a non-lineal way, which is game realistic.
  • Make it fun by making it a competition when trying to catch the ball from the coach
