Awareness to Turn

Description

Coach starts with a set of coloured cones in their hands. The athlete starts behind the pole before approaching the ball for a bounce pass with the coach. Once the pass has been paid, the coach picks up one of the colours which the player would turn towards with their first touch, taking the ball around the cone before passing back.

Key Coaching Points

Awareness - Players should be able to see around them to make the most effective decisions in the moment

Being ready - Players need to be able to react quickly to a sudden change. While the player might have a plan of what to do, the picture can change unexpectedly so the players need to be on their toes and alert to the situation.

Close control - Small steps with the ball helps us take small touches with the ball. When changing direction with it, get low to maximise control but also speed when turning.
