Description
1. Coach has a set of coloured cones in their hands. The athlete plays a bounce pass either side of the pole with the coach before the coach picks up one of the cones.
2. The athlete drops back to the back cones to receive the ball, taking their first touch around the cone and passing back. After, the athlete moves around the second cone before receiving the ball again, taking the ball towards the wall between the 2 sets of coloured cones.
3. The athlete plays a pass against the wall, checking their shoulder to see the colour the coach is putting up. The athlete takes their touch around the colour cone put up before passing the ball back to the coach to go again.
Key Coaching Points
Awareness - having the head up to be aware of what is around you, on both your front and blindside.
Body shape - have the hips and shoulders open to the ball and where you could go next. Getting side on helps see both forward and backwards from where the ball is coming from, but also can assist in preparing to protect the ball.
Timing - Scan at the right time, before receiving the ball and as you have received the ball to make the most informed decision.
