Acceleration Practice

Description

The player will work their feet through the trapezium until a colour is called.

The player will then sprint up to the mannequin before back-peddling to the first cone, from here the player will accelerate 10 yards to the cone at the top.

Progression 1:

When the colour is called the player will work to the opposite side of the mannequin to the colour called and play a bounce pass either side before back-peddling to the cone and accelerating forwards

Progression 2:

When the player completes the bounce passes and back-peddles to the cone, the coach will play a pass into the player to receive and then accelerate with the ball

Optional Progressions:

- Make the bounce passes volleys or half volleys

- Rather than passing the ball to the player at the cone, throw it to them

- When they accelerate to the cone at the top, add in a turn and accelerate back with the ball

Key Coaching Points

Encourage arm drives when working fast feet through the trapezium

When accelerating focus on being as explosive as possible, driving arms and knees with a slight forward lean in the body, accelerating up-right won't generate as much speed

When back-peddling, get them to imagine they're "jockeying" a player - make it game realistic
