The player is instructed to only use one part of their foot, switching between their right and left foot.
Parts of the foot
- Inside foot
- Outside foot
- Sole of the foot
Progression
- Add a step over before controlling it with one of the parts of the foot
- Close control
- Getting as many touches on the ball
Footwork & Reaction
The athlete should work through the first two trapeziums before reacting to a call from the coach, either “black/white”. The athlete should then work around the cone and into the next set of trapeziums before doing the same.
PROGESSSIONS :
- Add in ball work either side of the trapeziums, this could be passes, volleys etc.
- introduce a positive first touch beyond the coloured cone, and then a return pass to the coach
Footwork :
- 3-step : without crossing feet over, player will take 2 steps into the trapezium, and then 1 step out, zig-zagging from side to side.
- 5-step : similar to above, but taking 2 steps on the outside instead. This gives greater balance to play passes or to take a touch.
Changing direction :
- Load & Explode - look to lower your weight onto the planting foot, creating a bend in the hip, knee and ankle (loading). Then extend each joint to push off in the opposite direction (exploding)
Player starts with the ball. On the command they will dribble towards the mannequin and perform a turn before passing back to the coach. The player would then open out either side of the mannequin to receive the ball and play a pass into the mini goal.
Focus on the turns from our Brilliant Basics.
You can also progress to add in an element of decision making & reactions by pointing to the side you would like the player to receive on.
- Checking of the shoulder before you turn / receive
- Open body shape to receive
The player should start by running into the centre to receive and take their touch out to the top marker. The athlete will then perform a turn at the top marker and dribble into the slalom pole to perform a skill move before finishing.
The skills and turns chosen to work on should be taken from our Brilliant Basics.
